Stop Thinking of Your Website as an Expense — It’s an Investment in Your Business (and in Yourself)

Let’s talk about the word that makes most small business owners flinch: money.

More specifically — spending money.

When it comes to your business, you probably think about expenses in terms of what they take away. But what if we flipped that perspective? What if, instead of asking “How much will it cost?”, you started asking:

👉 “What will this create for me?”
👉 “What opportunities will this open for my business?”
👉 “What kind of return could this investment bring?”

Because when you see your website (or any professional help, really) as a cost, you stay stuck in maintenance mode — reacting, cutting corners, and trying to do everything yourself.

But when you see it as an investment, you shift into growth mode — building something that’s designed to multiply its value over time.

The Truth About “Sticker Shock”

I totally understand the feeling. Investing a few thousand dollars into a website can feel intimidating — especially when you’ve been scrappy, DIY-ing your business, and doing your best to stretch every penny.

But here’s the reality: you’re already paying for your website, one way or another.

If your current site isn’t converting, you’re losing sales.
If it’s not showing up in search, you’re missing opportunities.
If it’s confusing, clunky, or outdated, you’re losing trust.

That’s the silent cost of not investing — and it adds up fast.

A strategic, well-designed website, on the other hand, is built to do the heavy lifting for you. It turns browsers into buyers. It builds trust on autopilot. It helps you scale faster because it’s working even when you’re not.

The ROI of Doing It Right

A website done right isn’t just “nice to have” — it’s the foundation of your digital presence, the heart of your business. It’s often the first impression your audience ever gets of your brand, and within seconds, they’re deciding whether they trust you enough to work with you.

That’s why my web design packages start at $2,500 — not because I want to be out of reach, but because I want to deliver something that actually works for your business.

Every project I take on is built around strategy, storytelling, and psychology — not just aesthetics. Because your site shouldn’t just look good; it should make people feel confident in choosing you.

And when you make an intentional investment in your business, you’re really making one in yourself — in your vision, your confidence, your ability to show up like the professional you are.

Where I Put My Money (Because I Practice What I Preach)

Professional Brand Photos

  • Good photography is the single biggest difference between a website that feels trustworthy and one that doesn't. I enlisted a very talented friend to shoot my photos that you now see adorning my site. They feel on brand, show my face, make me appear real and approachable, and express how I operate my business. (Psst, need new photos? Let’s chat, I can help.)

Conferences & Retreats

  • It’s hard to put a price tag on simply “getting in the rooms" — whether that’s stadiums or event spaces, or more intimate settings for deep inner work. Networking isn’t always comfortable (especially for an introvert like me), but the payoffs are measurable. They push me outside my comfort zone, provide valuable insights, and most often, I walk away with a new client or two!

Bookkeeping & Tax Prep

  • I got tired of pulling my hair out every quarter trying to figure out my own estimated taxes and constantly worrying that I was doing something wrong — leaving my business at risk. Investing in a bookkeeper (KC Virtual Bookkeeping) and CPA (Persing Professional Group) has brought me immeasurable peace of mind. I get to focus on what I’m good at, and let them use their strengths to keep my business organized.

Coaching

  • I’ve invested in group and one-on-one coaching that have literally rewired my brain. In 2025 alone, I joined the Possibility Circle with Geeta Nadkarni and hired Gwen Tinsley for sales coaching. While very different purposes, the each helped me grow in confidence and approach the way I operate my business in a more profitable way.

Legal Advice

  • Most people don't think about legal protection until something goes wrong. I decided not to wait. I’ve tapped into lawyer-created resources to protect myself and my business, and also hired a local attorney to review and fortify my contracts. Legal risk is never completely preventable, but I’ve taken steps to protect myself where I can.

What You Pay For Is What You Build On

It's easy to compare prices — on websites, on coaches, on bookkeepers, on legal templates. But here's the hard truth:

You don't need the cheapest option. You need the right one.

Every investment I've made in my business — whether that's a photographer who truly captured my brand, a coach who challenged how I think, or a CPA who gave me back my peace of mind — has compounded. Each one made me better at what I do, more confident in how I show up, and more capable of delivering results for my clients.

Your website is no different. It's not just another line item — it's your digital headquarters, your sales engine, and the thing that helps your dream clients find and trust you. And just like the right coach or the right accountant, the right website designer brings strategy, not just execution.

So before you ask, "How much does it cost?" ask instead: "How much could this be worth to my business when it's done right?"

When you start thinking like that, you'll stop spending — and start investing.
